I drove by "Hoyt" yesterday, and one could scarcely see the antlers above the snow covering this front lawn now...Hope it is gone by April 9-10!

As a matter of fact, the photo was taken April 2009 following the 1st Department Officer's meeting in Des Moines.
Chief-of-Staff Lamb and I visted the Sherman Home and made the decision the 126th Encampment would be held at this historic venue.

Merry Christmas everyone.

I have an idea for the upcoming Sesquicentennial, but need to get some information from everyone.

Does anyone know of SUV members (Department of Iowa) who have letters from their ancestor from the war? Letters about camp life, campaigning, battles, etc.?

Let me know at -email-

Thanks for any information.

Gentlemen of the 49th Iowa,

While I was busy chasing after the mists in the Highlands of Scotland...you all were making Regimental history here at home. Well done, Sirs!

I also bring you greetings and warm salutations from your brothers in arms of the Black Watch (42nd Highland) and the Argylls (92nd Highland) from both Stirling and Edinburgh Castles. They look forward to meeting their "Brothers in Arms" from the 49th next year in Bonnie Scotland!

Greetings Brothers,
There will be an additional Franklin After Action Report posted tomorrow on this page.
This report will be presented by Brother Ron Rittel, PDC.
Normally, there is not two posted for the same event on the front page.
But, with the importance of the Franklin event, I felt it is necessary to post both.

My most sincere thanks to you, Commander Stahr, and expecially to the incredibly dedicated Color Sergeant Thompson for your heroic efforts on this just past Saturday at Dahl's in Ankeny. These events will soon allow us to meet our goals of begining the restoration of many of the monuments erected by our ancestors who served the causes of Union and Freedom so nobly.

Well done, gentlemen!

Greetings Brothers,
This 4th of July, go to a cemetery and identify a Civil War Vet. Clean his stone, or reset. Then send his name, unit, type of stone and if it needs to be replaced. I will help in getting a new one. Then I will place his name on the SUVCW data Base.

Greetings Brother Officers,

I have updated the Officer's Agenda and attached it to the June 27 Meeting post in our Forum section of the Department web site.
If you have already printed a copy, do not worry about printing another.
The only addition was in "New Business" to provide an update on the Iowa Battle Flag Project.
I recieved a detailed accounting of what will be taking place in 2009 and what is on the State's agenda for 2010.

Yours,

Just a reminder to go along with the “Iowa Rifles Monument Restoration Project”, Vicksburg NB is also seeking to replace plaques at monuments already on park service land. For example, we can adopt a monument and replace a plaque for $2,200.

Just an addition.

And I am sure the many Iowa monuments at Shiloh are in need of help.

Anyway, good job David in getting all that together.
