Dan Rittel and Mike Carr, Nice job with the continued CW grave documenting. I sent info to allow a relative of James Hall Vernon. who is buried at Walnut Hill Cemetery in Council Bluffs to order a military stone.

Another Rifleman's photo & bio has been added to the Rank & File page.
Greetings Brothers, This 4th of July, go to a cemetery and identify a Civil War Vet. Clean his stone, or reset. Then send his name, unit, type of stone and if it needs to be replaced. I will help in getting a new one. Then I will place his name on the SUVCW data Base.

Greetings Brother Officers,
I have updated the Officer's Agenda and attached it to the June 27 Meeting post in our Forum section of the Department web site. If you have already printed a copy, do not worry about printing another. The only addition was in "New Business" to provide an update on the Iowa Battle Flag Project. I recieved a detailed accounting of what will be taking place in 2009 and what is on the State's agenda for 2010.
Yours, C. Stahr Commander

Just a reminder to go along with the “Iowa Rifles Monument Restoration Project”, Vicksburg NB is also seeking to replace plaques at monuments already on park service land. For example, we can adopt a monument and replace a plaque for $2,200.
Just an addition.
And I am sure the many Iowa monuments at Shiloh are in need of help.
Anyway, good job David in getting all that together.

Very Good Thought, Brother Hayes. This is something for all to consider and we will place it on the Agenda for the June 27th Meeting in Redfield. If the officers can gain general agreement, a couple of volunteers can get your idea into action. They would be responsible for a formal plan, roster, and schedule. Conflicts with present Camp schedules would be the only issue, currently. Recruiting tents set up at events is a great idea. The Rifles will have one set-up in Carson this coming week-end to promote the IA SUVCW.

I would like to develop a core group of SUV membes (not necessarily the Iowa Rifles) who would participate in local parades and set up booths/tents, etc.
We have a number of events that something like this could be helpful.
My thought is to for the SUV to earmark several "regions" in the state and focus on membership in those regions. So we would want to be seen in those areas on a consistent basis.

Yes. I figured it out. I think I have subscribed to the web page -- only took me several weeks to do this.
As my daughter would say. "Dad, you can be taught."

Department of Iowa lads.
Commitments for membership in the Iowa Rifles will no longer be accepted until the Spring Muster of 2010.
In all, fifteen stout-hearted lads have answered the call and made the committment that this unit will require of them. Our path ahead is full of activities and special projects as we approach the Sesquicentennial of the Civil War. May we all prove to be up to the tasks ahead.

Commander,
I have the singular Honor to report that enlistments in the Iowa Rifles are taking place at a very satisfactory pace. Thus far, the Honored 37th Iowa has contributed the greatest number of enlistees; with our valiant 10th Iowa closely following suit. To both venerable Regiments, I say <"Huzzah, Gentlemen"
